La Grange is an eighteenth century cottage recently refurbished to a very high standard.  It is completely separate and has its own private access. Downstairs: Fully equipped kitchen with lovely westerly views over its own exclusive enclosed private garden and patio area. The dining area overlooks the pool in the sheltered courtyard.  There is an open plan salon with seating for 6, British & French satellite TV & DVD player. French doors lead to the garden and terrace.  There is WIFI throughout the gite.  The ground floor bedroom & shower-room have been designed to be wheelchair friendly. Upstairs there are 2 en-suite twin bedrooms-one with bath, one with shower.

The ground floor of La Grange has been designed with special attention to accessibility for wheelchair users. Entrance to the property is by way of gentle ramps and the ground floor of the property is all at one level with no steps. There is a specially designed en-suite section set behind the salon. Large doorways and turning areas are available throughout. The bedroom features a king-sized double bed and has a view over the courtyard where the pool is situated. The en-suite shower-room/ WC has been specially adapted for use by wheelchair users.

La Grange

At the end of August the French house in the Loire which we had owned for 23 years was sold.  This was the first time we had returned to France since then so we were apprehensive.  When we arrived at Les Volets Rouges it was dark but welcoming lights were coming from La Grange.  We were soon delighted with our surroundings – the décor, the cosiness, the layout and the facilities. It suited all the family.  We will be back.  3 generations of  Smith’s.

The Toysons and one Launers came to visit mid September. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a great vacance.
Things to recommend: Pour le pecheur – fishing on L’Authion 4 – 5 miles from Allonnes – good size bream 6 –7 lb. 2 week permit available from Decathlon in Saumur. You really must try the local tarts from the local boulangerie – first class!  Eating out the Creperie at Montsoreau on the banks of the Loire and the Auberge at Les Loges and the edge of a lake.  The Zoo at Doué La Fontaine, highly recommended – buy your ticket from the ‘office de Tourisme’ in Saumur for a big reduction.
 For those who love markets, Tuesday at Bourgeuil is a must – good local food – cheap handbags – expensive shoes – really authentic experience. Gratien-Meyer – near Saumur – excellent sparkling wine – tour of the caves – we bought a few bottles!  Also a must – go with Mark on a local wine tasting, Domaine Jerome Godefroy – very good and worth a visit. Our first stay chez Mark & Judy – first class – we will be back!

We had a wonderful week – very relaxing.  The gîte is beautiful.  The children loved the games room and we all loved the pool.  They particularly loved Caillou, and the chickens were very therapeutic.  Thanks Judy, for the swimming cap it really helped my ear ache!

What a treat to be able to visit again & explore this wonderful area further.  We’ve had a great holiday. This years highlights include:- the pool (predictable I know but fab!)  BBQ’s in the private garden of La Grange watching the sun go down – beautiful. Visiting the National Riding school. English tours are available. A must for riders and horse lovers. Thanks for another fabulous week.
